Advanced Cybersecurity Monitoring for Small Businesses

Advanced cybersecurity means looking for an attacker who is already inside your network, which antivirus and a firewall alone cannot do. Larger companies use security monitoring that collects logs from across the business, spots unusual activity and responds quickly. Zippie IT, a veteran-owned company in Meridian, Idaho, offers the same advanced cybersecurity to small businesses without hiring a security team.

What you get with advanced cybersecurity

  • Central log collection and monitoring (SIEM). Activity from your Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace accounts, devices, firewall and other systems is gathered in one place and watched for signs of an attack, such as impossible sign-ins, new mail-forwarding rules or mass file changes.
  • Automated response (SOAR). Some threats do not wait for a person. Automated actions, such as isolating a device or disabling a compromised account, contain an attack while a technician investigates.
  • Intrusion detection and prevention (IDS and IPS) on your firewall. We turn on, tune and manage these features on supported firewalls so known attack traffic is detected or blocked at the edge of your network.
  • Alerts you can act on. We review alerts before we contact you, so you hear from us when something matters.

Two levels of coverage

  • Advanced Security. Our own team reviews urgent alerts during support hours and contacts you at any hour for critical ones, as our emergency support provides.
  • Advanced Security 24/7. Adds a partner security operations center that watches your environment around the clock and escalates to us.

Firewall intrusion prevention management is priced per site. It supports UniFi and FortiGate firewalls, and we can supply the hardware and subscriptions where you need them.

Who advanced cybersecurity is for

It is a good fit if you handle regulated or sensitive data, need to answer cyber insurance questions with confidence, work under contracts that ask for monitoring and logging, or simply cannot afford a long outage. It also supports requirements in HIPAA, PCI DSS and CMMC for logging and monitoring.

How it fits with our other services

Advanced Security builds on our Enhanced Security package, which covers the protections every business should have first, such as multi-factor authentication, email protection, endpoint protection and security awareness training. See our cybersecurity services and managed IT services. If something does happen, an incident response retainer reserves our time in advance so we can start right away.

What it does not do

No monitoring service prevents every attack. We reduce the time between an attack starting and someone acting on it, and we tell you plainly what we find. Forensics, legal advice and breach notification services are provided by third parties.

Get started

    Frequently asked questions

    What is a SIEM?

A security information and event management system collects logs from your accounts, devices and network into one place and looks for patterns that suggest an attack.

What is the difference between IDS and IPS?

An intrusion detection system raises an alert when it sees suspicious traffic. An intrusion prevention system also blocks it. We manage both on supported firewalls.

    Do I need 24/7 monitoring?

If an attack outside business hours would cause serious harm, or your contracts or insurer require it, yes. Many small businesses start with business-hours monitoring and add 24/7 later.

    Which firewalls do you support?

UniFi and FortiGate. We can also supply the firewall and its subscription.

Is this the same as antivirus?

No. Antivirus stops known malware on a device. Security monitoring watches activity across the whole business and responds when something unusual happens.

Will it help with cyber insurance?

Often, yes. Monitoring, logging and response capability are common insurer questions. See our page on cyber insurance readiness.
